ABOUT TRANQUIL SPACES THERAPY
After years of working within co-occurring and dual diagnoses, it became clear that this was not a phase or a passing epidemic. This was normal and expected within most clinics and treatment centers. The issue was how treatment focused on what was the perceived, base problem. If a client was in a substance use facility, they were treated for the substance primarily, leaving any mental/emotional health diagnoses behind. While this was helpful, it was not truly identifying the cause, demeaning the effect of treatment. I wanted to expand my training and experiences to help clients heal, connect, and grow. I felt limited within a community mental health environment or a substance use treatment center, without the means to connect the two realms. This also meant that I had to break free of the historical chains of treatment, to be able to assist clients more completely. That translated into the beginning of Tranquil Spaces Therapy.
In February of 2022, I started TST (Tranquil Spaces Therapy). I want to keep walking with clients in their journey to free themselves of a substance, emotion, mood, or obstacle that strips away their freedom to be who they want to be. Even if there is no substance use, there is another issue taking up energy, time, and love. That issue could be addiction to anything, obsession over relative contrivance; that stands between a being and their ability to have a life they desire.
Since 2022, TST has helped countless people work through their issues, gain useful tools for life, discovered new outlooks for a successful existence and more meaningful connections. Just like addictions issues, a person has to be ready to change a little, to embrace help, and evolve within their relationships. Let me walk with you to find peace and beauty within this thing called life!
I serve anyone in the state of Michigan. If you'd like to set up a free 15 minute consultation to see if I'm the right fit for you, please feel free to give me a call, leave me a message below, or email me directly.
ABOUT ME
I began my professional career after raising my son as a single mother. From the age of 17, I embarked on a 28-year hospitality career where I worked as a server, bartender, and Front-of-the house manager. Along the way, I dabbled in some admin work, and some office positions. I received an Associate's Degree in Computer Science, Applications Specialist in 2003, at age 32. At the age of 44, I received my Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice, a concentration in Forensic Psychology with a focus in abnormal psychology. I went back to school for my BS in April of 2014, graduating in December of 2015, Summa Cum Laude. I did not waste any time and got into my Master or Arts program for Clinical Mental Health Counseling, beginning in the Summer of 2016. I continued on to graduate with Highest Honors in December of 2018. I engaged in an internship within an inpatient/outpatient facility. Within my internship, I gained experience within a detox, residential program. I also worked at the internship site when I was not getting my internship hours. Since I was not limited to just my internship hours, I was able to get experiences within the outpatient program, more specifically; intensive outpatient program. Throughout my tenure there, I was able to shift from inpatient to outpatient as needed, further developing my skill sets. It became apparent to me that I preferred outpatient therapy and was able to focus on how outpatient therapy worked, as well as groups in an intensive outpatient environment.
After working with those afflicted with substance use and addiction behaviors, I graduated and began working on my hours necessary to become fully licensed as a Licensed Professional Counselor in 2021. I continued work with this concentration in substance and addiction issues for the next three years for a total of five years focused in Medically Assisted Treatment programs. I began to feel limited in my scope, having concentrated on SUD/AUD (substance use disorders/alcohol use disorders) with minimal co-occurring exposure because of the extreme focus on SUD/AUD. I felt a need to break free from the SUD/AUD sector and learn more about some of the rooted issues drawn from mental health origins. I believed that I was doing a disservice to my clients without the understanding of human nature, nurture, or lack thereof. I felt like a fraud trying to help clients who were dealing with more deep seeded mental health issues that contributed to use behaviors. I wanted to understand more of my own mental health and substance use issues, that drove me to remain in old patterns and use behaviors, for around 25 years. I did not go down the same paths as some of my clients, and stayed within my addictions because of not receiving support or understanding while raising my son as a single mother. I did not realize that there was help out there, so I worked through it alone. I am happy to say I am on the other side of addiction and it becomes easier and easier to refrain from slipping back into that world. Because of my life experiences, I have been able to help others in different manners than your typical recovery avenues or allies.
It is now my life's work to establish therapeutic alliances with those afflicted with alcohol or substance use, relationship challenges, and daily struggles. Whether it is the experience of an individual or someone who is dealing with or helping another individual with stigmas or use behaviors. I have continued trainings on Trauma, Anxiety, Depression, Compulsions, Obsessions, Personality Disorders, to name a few to help clients with coping skills and alternatives to medications when possible. I am also focused on Internal Family Systems, Emotionally Focused Therapies, along with Couples or Relationship therapies. I want to assist you in living your most authentic life, while developing lasting coping mechanisms that can be applied to various environments.
